The Lauretan Sanctuary rose in the place where, according to legend, the Virgin Mary’s dwelling was prodigiously transported by the Angels on the night between the 9th and 10th of December 1294. Dating back to the 4th century, it is a place of continuous pilgrimage and considered the Italian "Lourdes". The conviction of this miraculous "flying" translation led Pope Benedict XV to nominate the Blessed Virgin of Loreto " Patroness of all aeronautics". The miraculous voyage is today recalled with the so-called "Festa della Venuta", a series of celebrations held every 10th December in the Marche region. Observing it you will be enchanted. The statuette of the Madonna is of small dimensions (160×57) and represents in its majesty the figure of the Madonna with brown incarnate carrying the Savior in her arms. There are few similar examples; in Europe there are 275, but the most famous is this one. The robe is golden and bears several 8-pointed stars. Of course, there is no real gold because it is painted wood and there are no precious stones.
