Lake Bordaglia, situated at the bottom of a glacial basin among the pastures below the slope of Mount Volaia, is located inside the Bordaglia Oasis, the largest wildlife refuge in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
In the oasis we find chamois, deer, roe deer, marmots, beech foxes, grouse, ptarmigan and eagles.
The Bordaglia Oasis is included in the Monte Cogliàns Park, a vast protection area that extends parallel to the Italian-Austrian border ridge from the Veneto border to the Monte Croce Carnico Pass. The lake is then surrounded by large larches, thickets of mountain pine and alder, pastures and a varied flora.
