Description

The Kleine Berlin is a complex of anti-aircraft tunnels built during the Second World War. Situated at the base of the Scorcola hill, the complex is formed by two distinct but communicating parts: the one built by the Italians and used by the population in case of air attacks, and the one built by the German military, used as a deposit, warehouse and anti-aircraft shelter. Known in history for having allowed the daring escape of General Odilo Globocnik and his followers during the agitated days of the Allied reconquest of the city, the complex is one of the few of its kind open to the public. Guided tours are organised by the Club Alpinistico Triestino, which has always been committed to the recovery and management of this underground treasure.
