The hydroelectric plant of Crespi d’Adda

The hydroelectric power plant of Crespi d’Adda is a production plant located on the left bank of the river Adda, built in Crespi d’Adda in the municipality of Capriate San Gervasio. The hydroelectric plant of Crespi d’Adda was founded in 1909 due to the increasing energy needs of the cotton mill and the village. Built near the oldest hydromechanical power plant, the new hydroelectric power plant of Crespi d’Adda was officially inaugurated on July 25, the day dedicated to St. Christopher, protector of water. Initially equipped with 3 Kaplan turbines (with vertical axis and completely immersed in the water to allow horizontal rotation) and fallen into disuse in 2009, it is now back to new life thanks to the Adda Energi Company, of the Iniziative Bresciane Spa Group, which in 2015 bought it, renovated it and put it back into operation, allowing the public to access and visit the historic part of the building. The Crespi d’Adda power station is the smallest of those created on the middle course of the Adda, but certainly the most beautiful: the late Lombard Liberty style decorations, the presence of the original parquet, the control panel and the turbine head of 1909 makes it a real jewel of industrial archaeology.
