The George Inn, in the beautiful neighborhood of Southwark, is a little gem of English architecture. This inn dates back to 1676 and among the many that once animated the area, is the only one that has remained intact to this day, with long white wooden balconies overlooking the inner courtyard. This characteristic has earned it the protection of the National Trust, the British body for the preservation of the English historical and cultural heritage. A curiosity for reading lovers? The place is mentioned in Charles Dickens’ novel Little Dorritt, set in the streets of this neighborhood.
