The basic structure of the facade was made during the construction of the church, in particular in 1207 was made the central mosaic on which you can read the signature Solsterno famous mosaicist of the thirteenth century. The facade of the Cathedral of Spoleto is flanked on the left side by the imposing quadrangular bell tower and consists of an elegant arcade with five round arches supported by Corinthian columns, admirable work of the master Ambrogio Barocci of 1492. The upper part is divided into two levels separated by a cornice supported by blind arches: the lower order is decorated with five beautiful rose windows, the central one, larger, is surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists; the upper order has three rose windows and three ogival niches, the central one, larger, is decorated with the wonderful mosaic with Christ Enthroned between the Madonna and St. John the Evangelist. The decorative elements are further embellished by the use of blocks of local stone, white and pink, which enhance the architectural details.
