Description

The Hypogeum of the Volumni (III century B.C.-I century A.D.) is part of the vast Etruscan necropolis of Palazzone, discovered in the nineteenth century and entirely brought to light from 1963 to the present day.
The necropolis consists of almost two hundred chamber tombs dug into the ground dating from the fifth century. BC to the Hellenistic period. At the entrance of the monumental tomb of the Volumni are preserved cinerary urns of travertine, terracotta, marble and sandstone from the Necropolis.
A steep and grandiose access dromos (corridor) leads to the burial chamber of Arunte and Lars Volumnio; the tomb is divided according to the plan of the Roman-Italic house, with the rooms around the central atrium.
