Muggia preserves a particularly mysterious corner where there are some 15th century engravings of unknown origin and explanation. Together with the inscription we can also observe several figures including a cuttlefish, a running deer, a round tower with windows and surrounded by walls, a running human figure looking backwards, a dragon facing a snake, a stylized rose with six petals within a circle, a marching lion(?)…
Several theories have tried to shed light on the mystery linked to these engravings. The first, the most accredited, hypothesizes that these figures belong to a Jewish iconography indicating that house inhabited by Jews in the 16th century even if there is no evidence that confirms their presence.
