The Dance Class of Edgar Degas

The Dance Class by Edgar Degas is a wonderful painting of dancers during a dance lesson given by the elderly Jules Perrot in an Opera hall on Rue Le Peletier. As in his other works, this image represents "a random moment out of a thousand possible". Degas liked to represent his subjects as if he were "spying on them through the keyhole".
