The Palazzo della Dogana, built in 1883, carried out its greatest activity during the reign of the Bourbons especially for the sale of cereals from Apulia, but also as a venue for the weekly market and annual fairs. From the 1950s onwards, the spaces of the building were used in a rather disparate way: from cinema to bus depot, and finally to school. The structural adaptations due to its use changed its original architectural structure. Since 1993, the Dogana dei Grani has been a museum where the historical and artistic artefacts recovered in the area following the 1980 earthquake are on display, in order to prevent the dispersion, theft or deterioration of the works of art.
