The town of Kromeriz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a pleasant town with a picturesque old town, arcades and bourgeois houses. Despite being called a castle, the jewel of Kromeriz is actually a luxurious baroque archbishop’s palace that was built in 1643 after the existing Gothic castle was demolished. A guided tour allows you to discover the elegant triumphal halls, including the Billiard Room which commemorates the meeting between Tsar Alexander II and Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph. The most important rooms of the palace are the Council Hall, with a gallery of portraits of bishops and the Congress Hall, with walls finely decorated with stucco. Not to be missed is the splendid library, which houses ancient manuscripts and two terrestrial and celestial globes, donated by Louis XIV.
At the beginning of the visit in Czech, ask for the brochure in Italian to follow the description of all the rooms.
