The Church of San Pietro in Vincoli is located in the old town of Sant’Angelo in Grotte, a precious testimony of the Middle Ages in the centre. It probably dates back to the Longobard foundation of the castrum, but it was restored in the 14th century with a precious cycle of frescoes, around 1350, dedicated to the depiction of the "Sette Opere della Misericordia", readable from right to left. Near the church, hollowed out in a cave, flows a blessed spring, linked to the legend of St. Michael the Archangel, who would have indicated to the Longonardi the place of foundation right there.
