The Church of San Andrea della Valle is one of the most monumental churches in Rome, together with the Church of Jesus and St. Ignatius form the emblem of the so-called Counter-Reformation church.
Temple of the Theatines, it was begun in 1591 but became part of the baroque churches of Rome because its decorations continued in the 1600’s acquiring the most fashionable style of the time.
The initial project was designed by the architect Olivieri, then taken over by Father Grimaldi dei Teatini, finally at the beginning of the seventeenth century large allocations allowed Maderno the completion of the dome in 1622, it is second in height only to that of St. Peter.
