The castle of Mussomeli, located two kilometers from the village of the same name, is built on a limestone fortress at a height of about 80 meters. Almost at the base of the rock there is a walled enclosure to defend the access road. On the summit there is a second wall that encloses the residential part of the castle.naturally protected on three sides, the castle enjoyed a dominant position over the wide surrounding valley. Unusual its position towards the inhabited centre from which it is about 2 km away; it is possible to assume that the castle was built on that site, almost inaccessible, exclusively with the function of autonomous military garrison and not to defend the residential settlement, built almost at the same time as the castle itself.
