The castle is owed to the De Rose family. In 1199, Emperor Frederick II declared Richard I de Rose Baron of the Crati Valley.
The Castles of Rose, Luzzi and Tarsia in the period of Roger the Norman constituted a strategic point for the control of the territory between the valley of Crati and the plain of Sybaris.
The Castle rises on the highest part of the historical centre, over a moat that constituted a natural protection against enemy raids.
The castle has a large courtyard from which, among other things, start two staircases leading to the upper floor.
