The history of the castle and the village of Compiano is very old – in fact Compiano is part of the Club of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Today the castle of Compiano is a four-star hotel, open all year round. The history of the Castle of Compiano begins with its first tower built before the year 1000.
Many noble families have succeeded in the Castle of Compiano, first of all the Malaspina family. The latter then decided to sell it to the Municipality of Piacenza, but the Landi Family managed to settle in the Manor. They ruled over Compiano and its Principality for about 500 years, from the beginning of 1200 AD until the end of 1700 AD.
Later it fell into the hands of the Farnese family and so began its decline, as it became a prison until the end of the nineteenth century.
In the early years of the twentieth century it changed its use completely, becoming a private school for girls, until Marchesa Lina Raimondi Gambarotta decided to buy it. She renovated it and furnished it as she liked, inserting themed rooms with furniture from all over the world. The guided tour includes the Museum of Freemasonry, the Museum of Food and Wine and the Museum of the rooms of the Marchesa Gambarotta.
