The Broletto Tower (or Torre di Città) is certainly the oldest tower in Vercelli and a curious legend is associated with it. Perhaps the most famous of the city. It is said that the souls of illustrious Vercellians who have passed on, in the form of blue flames, hover around the tower. And if someone, among the illustrious people of our days, should see a free space in the row of flames… it would mean that his hour has come :-/ But if you are not illustrious, don’t worry: it means that you are just a little bit drunk! However, you might see someone who, passing by in the dark, covers his face with his hands: don’t take him for a fool, he’s just a famous person trying to avoid "seeing"!
