The Bosco Rocconi Reserve covers an area of 371 hectares and is located downstream of the village of Roccalbegna, on a portion of the reserve was established the WWF Oasis. The territory is characterized by a wild environment with rocky walls, gorges carved into the rock, Mediterranean forests with trees and some areas still unexplored. It is crossed by two rivers: the Rigo stream and the Albegna river.
During your visit to the Bosco Rocconi you will be fascinated by canyons, small waterfalls, caves, high vertical walls and rocky pinnacles. In the summer period the imposing broadleaf trees provide hikers with an excellent natural shelter from the sun’s rays. In addition, the low rainfall of the period allows you to walk on the river pebbles and discover numerous animal tracks. You can also swim across a narrow passage with vertical walls so close that you can touch them with the opening of your arms, this area is called "Strette" and is a gorge carved by floods over thousands of years.
The Oasis is very popular with birds of prey, including the red kite, the short-toed eagle, the honey buzzard and even the rare lanner falcon. So much so as to be "baptized" by the WWF "The Valley of the Hawks".
