The Australian War Memorial is one of the city’s most poignant sites, dedicated to members of the Australian Armed Forces and supporting organisations who have fallen during the nation’s wars and peacekeeping operations.
Consisting of three parts, the memorial consists of a Commemorative Area, which includes the Hall of Remembrance with the Tomb to the Unknown Australian Soldier, the memorial exhibits and the Research Centre. The museum encompasses numerous records of the nation’s military history and chronicles the defining moments that helped create its identity. Free and open to the public seven days a week, a visit to this place of remembrance is extremely interesting and moving.
