Already a Roman municipium, the city of Mevaniola was included by Augustus in the royal palace VI (Umbria), perhaps a testimony of its ethnic and cultural roots. The name itself, little Mevania, makes explicit reference to the Umbrian town of Mevania (today’s Bevagna). The structures currently visible, brought to light by archaeological research, consist of a theatre building, a small cistern and part of the town’s thermal baths. In the nearby Civic Museum ‘Mons. Domenico Mambrini’, located in the village of Pianetto, in Via Borgo n. 22, 1 km from Galeata in the direction of S. Sofia (tel. 0543.981854), are exposed, among others, also the finds found during the excavationsThe archaeological remains are always visible from outside the fence. The area can be visited by appointment by contacting the Municipality of Galeata.
