Tarragona

Tarragona is a city located in the Catalonia region on the northeastern coast of Spain, about 100 kilometers south of Barcelona. The city overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and is known for its Roman history and cultural heritage.One of Tarragona’s main historical sites is the ancient Roman settlement of Tarraco, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can see the ruins of the Roman amphitheater, the Roman circus, the Praetorian tower, and the Roman necropolis.The city of Tarragona is also home to several other historical and cultural sites, including the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, an important Gothic church built in the 14th century; the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, which displays Roman and medieval artifacts; and the Central Market, a modernist building built in 1915 that houses a covered market.Tarragona is also famous for its gastronomy, with dishes made with fresh fish, seafood, and local products such as "xató," a dish made with salad and almond sauce, and "romesco," a sauce made with tomatoes, peppers, and almonds.In addition, Tarragona is an important beach tourist destination, with numerous sandy beaches and coves along the coast, such as Playa del Miracle, Playa Larga, and Cala Fonda.
