The Brenta Dolomites are a subsection of the southern Rhaetian Alps in the autonomous province of Trento. It is the only Dolomite group to rise west of the Adige River. The Brenta Dolomites are the ninth and last of the Dolomite groups to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Brenta Dolomites are protected entirely by the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. They look like a rocky road 42 km long and 12 km wide: a chase of peaks, bastions, gullies, rocky plateaus, dihedrons and peaks of all shapes. They are bounded to the south by the Giudicarie, to the north by Val di Sole, to the east by Val di Non and to the west by Val Rendena. Characteristic of this group è the presence of several lakes, including Molveno and Tovel .
The UNESCO World Heritage Brenta Dolomites can be divided into 4 main groups: the southern one, with Cima Tosa, the highest of the group; the central one, of Dolomia Principale, with the Brenta and Groste’ peaks; the northern one with Pietra Grande and Sasso Rosso; and the Campa group with Monte Corona. Of all the peaks that make up that area, Campanil Basso is definitely the best known, especially in mountaineering circles. The perfect place to photograph the chain at sunset is definitely the beautiful Malga ritorto.
