A focal point and easily accessible in the heart of the city, it is a few minutes’ walk from major attractions and museums such as the Museum of Natural History (Naturhistorisches Museum) and the Museum of Art History (Kunsthistorisches Museum).
Right on the square is the eponymous Stephansplatz subway stop, which leaves hundreds of people astonished every day once they step out of the U-bahn for the first time, captivated by the spectacle before their eyes!
The large pedestrian zone where the square is located is along the connection of the famous "Goldenes U," a combination of history, architecture and modernity one is fascinated by the historic buildings, the adjacent monuments, the luxury brands that surround it and why not pampered by the renowned Cafes.
After lingering at Stephansplatz, for those with a sweet tooth, a stop not far from the square is a must at the Sacher Café where you can enjoy the original Sacher cake and a good coffee, which has always been an institution for the Viennese.
The "scenic" walk culminates with a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom), one of the tallest churches in the world and a symbol of the city after which the square is named. An imposing Gothic-style building, located in the center of Stephansplatz, it has one of the largest organs in Europe, and from the top of the towers there is a wonderful panorama of Vienna.
During all seasons of the year Stephansplatz does not lose its charm and especially in the month of December a special and magical harmony surrounds it with the arrival of the wonderful Christmas illuminations and stalls that also adorn the adjacent historical avenues creating a warm and evocative atmosphere with the background of music and scents of the various Austrian gastronomic specialties.
The uniqueness of Stephansplatz between history music and modernity must be appreciated live
