The State Museum of San Marino was formed in the second half of the 19th century following a series of donations from all over the world, due to many admirers of the Republic and initially promoted by Count Luigi Cibrario, Minister of Vittorio Emanuele II and plenipotentiary of the State of San Marino since the first treaty with the Kingdom of Italy (1862).
It was inaugurated in 1899 in Palazzo Valloni, seat of the Government Library. Restored autonomous in 1982, it was reorganized in the ancient Palazzo Pergami Belluzzi, suitably renovated and reopened to the public on March 18, 2001.
It possesses historical and artistic materials (almost 5000 pieces), some coming from San Marino and relevant to its history, and others of different origins, due to purchases, as well as donations made to the State from 1865 to today.
