the State Art Museum, one of the oldest Russian museums, founded at the end of the 19th century. The collection of works amounts to about 12 thousand pieces.
It includes a rich collection, exhibited on two floors in the former residence of the military commander, inside the Kremlin.
There you can admire an extraordinary overview of Russian art from the 14th to the 20th century: Russian icons, oil paintings by Russian masters (Ivan Shishkin, Viktor Vasnetsov, Ilya Repin, Vasily Surikov) and also modern art (Vasily Kandinsky).
