School of Enology of Conegliano

Conegliano, in the Veneto region of Italy, is home to the prestigious G.B. Cerletti Oenological School, the oldest in Italy, founded in 1876. The school is named after its first director, G.B. Cerletti, who, together with Antonio Carpenè, was one of the promoters of the establishment of Oenological Schools in Italy. One of the school’s main attractions is the spectacular Aula Magna, a true decorative jewel created by Antonio Maria Morera (1888-1964). Other places worth a visit are the viticulture department with its tasting room, the science department, the Bottega del Vino, an original building located to the left of the school and inaugurated in 1927, and the school’s wine cellar, used both for winemaking the grapes produced in the school’s vineyards and for educational purposes. The Conegliano School of Oenology continues to be an important center for training, experimentation and promotion of oenological activity and culture in the area. Also located within the campus are the Professional Institute for Agriculture, the Agricultural Technical Institute (now called "Istituto Statale di Istruzione Secondaria Superiore G.B. Cerletti"), the I.T.S (Istituto Tecnico Superiore per le nuove tecnologie per il made in Italy Agro-food and vitivinicolo compartment), the University of Padua (which offers courses for a degree in Viticultural and Oenological Sciences and Technologies), and the Regional Center for Oenological Viticulture and Grappa. In 2016, the Manzoni Museum, located on the second floor of the Enological School, was inaugurated. This museum is a tribute to the figure of Professor Luigi Manzoni (1888-1968), a distinguished dean, researcher and experimenter of national and international renown. The museum tour allows visitors to explore the professor’s work through a wealth of scientific materials, instrumentation, publications and the places in the institute where he carried out his daily research.
