Satpara Lake

Satpara Lake, also known as Sadda Lake, is a picturesque natural lake situated at an elevation of 2,636 meters (8,650 feet) above sea level near Skardu, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Covering an area of 2.5 square kilometers (1.55 miles), this lake is not just a stunning scenic spot but also a vital water resource for the Skardu Valley.

The lake is fed by the Satpara Stream, and since 2003, the construction of the Satpara Dam just below the lake has been underway. Once completed, this dam is expected to increase the size of Satpara Lake significantly, further enhancing its capacity to supply water to the town of Skardu.

The lake already plays a crucial role in the region as a primary source of water, supporting both domestic needs and local agriculture.

One of the most enchanting features of Satpara Lake is a small island located in its center, which adds a magical quality to the lake’s already breathtaking landscape.

The island is accessible by country boats, providing an idyllic destination for visitors looking to explore further or simply enjoy the tranquil beauty of the surroundings.

Local folklore adds another layer of mystique to Satpara Lake, with legends suggesting that there is a gold mine at the bottom of the lake. This story, whether myth or fact, contributes to the lake’s allure and the sense of mystery that surrounds it.

Satpara Lake is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and picnicking.

The serene environment, coupled with the lake’s natural beauty and its importance to the community, makes it a must-visit location for anyone traveling to Skardu and seeking to experience the unique charms of Gilgit-Baltistan.
