In the south of the island we can find an almost fairy-tale landscape. It is Sa Buddidorgia, not far from the enchanted beaches of Villasimius and Costa Rei. They are the small waterfalls of Rio Sa Buddidorgia, in the municipality of Villaputzu, which form natural emerald pools. Hidden by the wild and lush nature, made of thick forests and rocks carved by the floods of the stream, an area where very few people live, are a small paradise on earth.
These streams, originated by the rains, are formed only at certain times of the year and are not always visible. Spring would be the best season to take a hike and, why not, maybe a nice refreshing swim in the waterfalls.
Too bad that this area is located within a military site and that access is not allowed. Not even with a local guide.
The path leading to this site is that of the Fosso del frate (in Sardinian, “Fossu de su para”) that crosses the valleys of Sarrabus Gerrei and goes along every bend of the torrent. Located on the eastern edge of the Quirra plateau, the valley is an environment that amazes for its unusual shapes and colors. It is one of the most beautiful and uncontaminated environments imaginable.
Following the path and crossing the river several times, it is possible to reach some suggestive points of the torrent, such as the waterfall of the right branch and the basins of the lower section, which are the destination of many excursion itineraries. Finally, it is possible to reach the “Fungo” or the ”Fossu de su para” one of the most characteristic points of the gorge of Buddidorgia.
