Sanctuary of San Besso
Legend has it that St. Bessus was a soldier of the Theban legion who converted to Christianity. After the massacre of Saint-Maurice d’Agaune the few veterans of the massacre began to wander the mountains preaching the new faith. Besso followed this road until he was captured and thrown from the cliff of Mount Fautenio leaving a miraculous imprint on the rock. Today, in that place, at 2,019 m of altitude, there is a sanctuary built close to that cliff and inside the church you can see the rock on which Saint Besso was martyred.
