Sanctuary of Monrupino

On one of the karst reliefs, where the stone again turns into a steep slope, is the Tabor or Rocca di Monrupino, a fortress that holds a shrine consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption inside. Also located within the walls are the Parish House and the House of the Comunanza, with simple, understated lines carved into the living stone and covered with stone slabs. The beautiful wide courtyard offers a peaceful atmosphere and a unique panorama. To the south, the eye embraces the Karst plateau in a quick glance and is lost on Socerb (S. Servolo) and Mount Slavnik (Taiano). To the west it sweeps over the Adriatic Sea with the mouth of the Isonzo, Grado, and Barbana. On clear days the lines of the lagoon become sharp as far as Venice, while above the Friulian plain the peaks of the Dolomites shine in the distance. Toward the east rises proudly the Nanos, a little further to the left the ?aven and the Ternova (Trnovo) plateau, sometimes the peaks of the Julian Alps are visible.
