San Vigilio di Marebbe, Al Plan de Mareo in Ladin, is a charming village in the Mareo Valley, on the edge of Val Badia in South Tyrol, located in a basin between Plan De Corones, Pizzo delle Pietre and Paraccia on one side, and Mount Pares and Piz de Plaies on the other side of the quiet valley.
Thanks to its picturesque old town with traditional Ladin houses, the natural setting dominated by the majesty of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site and the hospitality of its inhabitants, this small hamlet in the municipality of Marebbe can boast to be one of the most popular tourist destinations in Trentino Alto Adige, both during the summer and winter seasons.
The village is part of the tourist area Plan de Corones and is immersed in one of the most enchanting natural parks of the region: the Natural Park Fanes – Senes – Braies. Wild animals, alpine lakes, hiking trails, mountain huts and refuges, large forests, meadows and pure mountain air make this area the perfect destination for a holiday in direct contact with nature.
The village lies at 1201 m a.s.l. in a wide basin dominated on the right by Plan de Corones (2275 m a.s.l.), Pizzo delle Pietre (Piz da Peres, 2507 m a.s.l.) and Paraccia (2438 m a.s.l.). On the opposite side of the valley, the village is overlooked by Mount Pares (in Ladin Sas de Crosta, 2396 m a.s.l.) and the wooded Piz de Plaies (1700 m a.s.l.), which can be easily reached by a cable car up to the Giogo (in Ladin Ju, 1620 m a.s.l.), not far from the summit, from where the view overlooks Val Badia.
San Vigilio hosts the Fanes – Sennes – Braies Nature Park visitor centre where visitors can receive information about the park (environment, geology, paleontology, human activities).
