Crossing the course of the Crisul Repede, the river that flows through Oradea, we move away from the centre to one of the largest churches in the city, the Cathedral of Saint Mary. It was erected between 1752 and 1780 and is characterized by decorations in Austrian Baroque style, as well as being the largest Catholic cathedral in Romania. St. Mary’s Cathedral, also known as the Roman Catholic Basilica, is located right in front of the statue of St. Ladislaus, King of Hungary, placed almost as a guard to the religious building.
Inside the church we find a small museum named in honor of St. Ladislaus, as well as some tombstones that were brought here from the Fortress. We are about 3 km from Piata Unirii.
