Pristine beaches, vineyards and orange groves frame one of the jewels of Abruzzo, Rocca San Giovanni. This delightful medieval town, located in the province of Chieti and lying on a rocky spur at an altitude of 155 meters above sea level, overlooks the Costa dei Trabocchi, a splendid stretch of the Adriatic coast renowned for its natural beauty. But that’s not all. Walking through its picturesque old town and admiring attractions such as the church of St. Matthew the Apostle or even the Town Hall, you can understand why this microcosm has become part of the network of "The most beautiful villages in Italy". Among the local beauties it is impossible not to mention them, the trabocchi, defined by Gabriele D’Annunzio as "strange fishing machines similar to a colossal spider". They are wooden platforms stretched out over the sea and supported by long poles driven into the sea, or between the rocks, once used as real fishing machines.
