Another particularly famous fortress is the Ravaldino Fortress located in Forlì, built between 1300 and 1400, when the presence of two rocks had been reported in the city. One of these was the Rocca di Ravaldino, or rather it was a fortification that would soon become one.
In 1423 the fortress still had its old fourteenth-century forms, and only in 1471 did work begin on its modernisation, begun by Pino III Ordelaffi and completed by Girolamo Riario on 14 June 1481. The Rocca di Ravaldino also had a citadel, also built at Riario’s behest in order to contain an entire army. Particularly interesting is that this fortress, as also reported in the chronicles of the time, has always been subject to flooding of its moat and its underground floor.
