A sacred town and well-known pilgrimage site, Rocamadour, perched on a limestone cliff, majestically dominates the Alzou canyon. A still wild and unspoilt environment! Famous for its sanctuaries, in particular that of the Black Madonna, Rocamadour attracts a large number of visitors and pilgrims every year. The village of Rocamadour is the most visited place in France after Mont-Saint-Michel! After climbing the 216 steps of the Grand Staircase leading up to the churchyard, pilgrims and tourists alike will discover Rocamadour’s seven sanctuaries, including the chapel of Notre-Dame, the basilica of the Holy Saviour and the chapel of Saint-Michel. Not to be missed is the chapel of Notre-Dame or miraculous chapel which houses a statue of the Black Madonna dating from the 12th century. Near the chapel is the tomb of Saint Amadour.
