A visit to the Flavio Vespasiano Theatre is a must. No, it is not an architectural work belonging to a very distant past, but it remains one of the most important symbols of the city. It is, in fact, the main theatre of Rieti, inaugurated in 1893, after 10 years of work. It is not only an architectural structure, but the fulcrum around which the wheel of Rieti culture revolves.
The project came to life in 1882, when a government provision forbade the use of old wooden theatres (the historic Teatro dei Condomini was closed in Rieti). But, the theatre as it appears today, marvellous in every detail, has been subject to numerous modifications, which were gradually added to the initial project. So, retouching after retouching, change after change, today the beautiful Teatro Flavio Vespasiano, dedicated to an illustrious son of the Sabine land, the great emperor Flavio Vespasiano, appears before everyone’s eyes.
