Real Felipe Fortress

Fort Real Felipe is an imposing fortress located in the city of Callao, Peru. Built between 1747 and 1774 during the Spanish colonial period, the fort was designed by Italian military engineer Juan Francisco Gemelli to protect the port of Callao from attacks by pirates and enemy nations.The fort was built of brick and stone and is surrounded by a 25-meter deep moat. The building is pentagonal in shape and has five bastions, each with a heavy cannon.Today, Fort Real Felipe is open to the public as a historical and cultural museum, where visitors can explore the building and its collections of weapons, uniforms, torture instruments and other historical objects. The fort has been declared a national monument by the Peruvian government and is a popular tourist attraction for visitors who wish to learn about the military history of Peru and the Callao region.
