Rapolla is known for its wine and olive production, and for thermal tourism, due to the presence of acidulous-ferruginous waters that flow from the three springs in contrada Orto del Lago, as well as being a historic bishop’s seat. Rapolla boasts a very high number of sacred and rural buildings.
The choice is really wide between: two monasteries, three convents, three crosses, ten lauras, five hermitages, seven churches, and, if we consider the past as bishop’s curia, even the abbey of Santa Maria di Pierno and the abbey of Monticchio.
A peculiar feature of the Rapolla territory are the hypogean cavities found on each side of a tuffaceous ridge.
Exactly in front of the historical centre, there is the particular site of the Parco Urbano delle Cantine. Consisting of underground cavities with only one external closing wall, these cavities have been used since ancient times for the preservation of wines produced on the hills exposed to the sun (a mangós in the local dialect).
