Toruń is a beautiful medieval city on Vistula River in Poland. Archeologists discovered the first settlement from 1100BC. Through the time, there were two towns in this region. The first one was a Polish settlement (1230-31) with a castle built by Teutonic Knights, a few years later inhabited by Franciscan monks and Dominicans.
The second nearby city was founded in 1264, and later in 1280 both cities joined the mercantile Hanseatic League and turned into an important medieval trade center. It’s worth to mention that Toruń was the place where Nicolaus Copernicus was born.
