The Place de Gaulle is a large square, regarded as the boundary between the old city of Ajaccio and the new neighborhoods. Here you will find a statue of Napoleon (again!) surrounded by his 4 brothers, as well as a monument commemorating the liberation of Ajaccio by General de Gaulle during World War II.The square overlooks the sea directly. It is also the point from which small shopping streets start, in which you will find several bars and restaurants. The place often hosts events and concerts during the summer, as well as the Christmas market in winter. Locals often play "bocce" here, while children ride bicycles and scooters.
