The region of Castilla y Leon is a land so plentiful of castles they even named the region after them, the Spanish word for Castle is Castillo.The castle is located on a hill overlooking the valleys of Duratón and Botijas. Its exterior is uniform in appearance, and it has a single door. The keep has a rectangular floor plan and is over 30 metres high, 14.5 by 20 metres at its base, and is crowned by eight turrets. The tower is flanked by two courtyards. On the interior of the castle there are two floors and a stone vault. It was declared a National Monument in 1917, and is currently home to the Provincial Museum-Foundation of the Wines of Valladolid.
