The park (Parc del laberint d’Horta) is a historic garden created at the end of the 18th century and is the oldest park still in use in the city of Barcelona. The neoclassical style park owes its name to the labyrinth in the park. The park and especially the labyrinth is ideal for a visit with children, but on other days it is also an oasis of tranquility in the hectic city of Barcelona. In 1792 the Italian architect Domenico Bagutti was commissioned to build a cypress labyrinth in this park, with a statue of Eros in the middle. The park was then owned by the wealthy Desvalls family who lived in a mansion next to the park and the park was then located in the independent municipality of Sant Joan d’Horta, which was only annexed to the city of Barcelona in 1904. The 9-hectare park is divided into neoclassical and romantic gardens; next to the famous labyrinth there is a waterfall, a moss garden, two Italian temples with statues of Danae and Artemis and beautiful Tuscan columns. In the early 1970s the park became the property of the city of Barcelona and was opened to the public.
