The Parisio photographic archive is a real secret of Naples. The cultural association Archivio Fotografico Parisio, is based in Naples in Piazza del Plebiscito, San Francesco di Paola arcade, in the same premises that were, since 1924, the photographic atelier of Giulio Parisio. Founded in 1995, the association is the custodian of an important photographic patrimony – both negative and positive – which constitutes one of the most compact and homogeneous archives available today in southern Italy, documenting the evolution of the social, cultural and urban history of the city of Naples and Campania.
The Parisio and Troncone archives, which represent the most substantial funds held by the association, consist of over one million original negatives, on various supports and formats, as well as a considerable quantity of original positives.
The two collections present different and complementary characteristics, together giving a complete reading of the historical and artistic journey of Naples, from the early 1920s to the end of the 1980s.
