A very important sanctuary in Palermo is that of Santa Rosalia, the patron saint of the city. Its structure with its imposing straw yellow facade is inserted in a gorge of rock, almost on top of Mount Pellegrino, at a height of 445 meters. An uncovered atrium leads into the cavity of the cave, the "heart" of the complex, where under a canopy with opulent baroque forms is the sacred image of the saint, sculpted by the Florentine Gregorio Tedeschi. It was here, in fact, that Rosalia’s bones were found by a hunter.
