Palazzo Albizzeschi and San Bernardino da Siena

At the top of Corso della Libertà is this fourteenth century building where Bernardino degli Albizzeschi, also known as San Bernardino da Siena, was born in 1380. It was in Massa Marittima that he began preaching as a Franciscan friar. The palace Albizzeschi was restored several times and in ‘500 was occupied by the friars of the order. Today it is in nineteenth-century style and the only trace of the passage of the saint is a plaque at the top of which is placed the emblem of Bernardino with the trigram of Christ.
