Palane Tower (or Plane Tower)

Torre Palane (or Torre Plane) is a work of fortification and defense of the Adriatic coast of Salento. The Tower is part of the system of coastal towers of the Salento peninsula, built in the sixteenth century as a guard post and defense of the coast from Saracen raids. The tower, built with sandstone blocks extracted on site, is 15 m high and is located 15 m above sea level. It has a truncated pyramidal base slightly scarped.
