Of particular charm and beauty, situated in Piazza Duomo, the fountain of Orion was realized with Carrara marble around the middle of 1500 by Montorsoli, pupil of Michelangelo. The fountain has a pyramidal shape with Orion at the top, who according to mythology represents the founder of the city of Messina. At the feet of the fountain there is a big basin representing the four rivers (Nile, Tiber, Ebro and Camaro).
