Old Tower of Capo Rizzuto

Old Tower of Capo Rizzuto was part of the defensive system built to protect the population from the incursion of the Turks. Cylindrical in plan, with stone ashlars, the tower was the site of an armed garrison until 1800. It is fortified; today it is in bad condition because of the damage caused by salt and atmospheric agents. Built in 1380 under the reign of Charles III, it was used during the French decade for customs purposes.
