A vast area of swamp and wetlands, Obedska Bara was created by changes in the course of the Sava River that flows nearby. Established as a nature reserve in 1874, it’s one of the world’s oldest nature reserves and just two years younger than Yellowstone National Park. What draws most visitors to explore these peaceful wetlands is the reserve’s diversity of flora and fauna. Obedska Bara is particularly known for its birdlife, with roughly 220 different species of bird calling this swamp home. The other side of the park’s beauty is its plantlife, that includes several types of water lilies and orchids among its wealth of aquatic flora.
