"Sverd i fjell" , the great swords in the rock, is a memorial located in Hafrsfjord, a suburb of the city of Stavanger in Norway. It is an imposing monument, by Norwegian sculptor Fritz Røed, commemorating the Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872, when Viking King Harald Hårfagre unified Norway for the first time under one crown.Three giant Viking swords, 10 meters high, embedded in the hard rock of the Norwegian region of Møllebukta.
The monument is located on a small mountain in the area where the battle may have taken place. Few people know that the fjord is wider here, so it was here that the Vikings placed their boats side by side to fight their way.
